"If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things."

Welcome to the Quote of the Day! This site originated in a small, special education, high school classroom and we talk about these quotes each morning on school days. We'll share our thoughts, feelings, and personal values as we explore the words of others. We look forward to hearing your thoughts as well. If you have a quote that you would like to see used, please send it to: michelle(dot)nvs(at)gmail(dot)com (all lower case).

...including yourself.
Doubt can be very healthy. We all need to do a self-inventory now and then because we are constantly learnning and adding experiences to our lives and that shapes our perceptions and values.
Those can get off-kilter every now and then and the only way we would know it is to evaluate periodically.
Hmmm... question all that you've been taught & then decide for yourself.
However, if Descartes ever doubted his own ability to think, wouldn't he cease to exist?
I believe we should feel free to question EVERYTHING - however we have to be prepared for the answers - which aren't always what we expect or want.
There was the old story about the college professor who walked into his classroom, and on the board was written "Question Authority!". He calmly wrote beneath it "but are you willing to listen when authority answers?" and taught class without missin a beat.
I question the value of self doubt however. Know yourself, learn about yourself, but don't doubt yourself of you will never accomplish anything.
