I think this is mostly true in the adult world but it is far from true in the classroom.
Teachers frequently believe in the student long before he or she realizes his or her capabilities.
Teachers believe in our potential - but to realize any potential you first must have the self confidence and esteem to do it.
And contrary to many of this nations school systems, self esteem cannot EVER be given - it must be earned. The value of anything that is given to you is infitesimal compared to the value of earning that same thing yourself.
