"If someone offers you a gift and you decline to accept it, the other person still owns that gift. The same is true of insults and verbal attacks."

Welcome to the Quote of the Day! This site originated in a small, special education, high school classroom and we talk about these quotes each morning on school days. We'll share our thoughts, feelings, and personal values as we explore the words of others. We look forward to hearing your thoughts as well. If you have a quote that you would like to see used, please send it to: michelle(dot)nvs(at)gmail(dot)com (all lower case).

I've been called some very creative (and some not-so-creative) insults by the troubled teens that I have worked with for the last 17 years and I have found that an easy (not sarcastic) smile and a simple, "No, thank you." work wonders.
We do not have to carry another person's nasty attitude and baggage around with us so why would we even want to?
Don't accept it. Move on.
No one can make you feel anything, including bad about yourself. How you feel is a choice - make the one that works for you
I've a friend who reminds me of these facts often. He says, "You don't have to accept hat gift."
