Cynicism and hope cannot dwell in the same space. One of them will cease to be.
I find that cynicism helps to get through some of the bad times better than hope does. Hope makes you vulnerable, and allows you to be hurt.
Not always a bad thing to be vulnerable, but it can get very difficult when you are hurt too often.
