I think that this is becoming more and more of an issue, especially here in the U.S. of A.
That being said, I also think that more and more people are turning away from that lifestyle and simplifying their lives.
We choose the altars that we sacrifice to rather we admit it or not.
A veteran college professor once said to {us} at semester's end, "Get educated, dance on tables, go distances near & far - BUT for life's sake, don't allow yourselves to become a prisoners to stuff."
I so agree with this one. Not that I want to give up some of my stuff, but there is a definite freedom to having nothing.
Back when I was getting divorced, at one point I had nothing more than what fit in my old van, and there was a point where if I my (at the time) girlfriend (now my wife) hadn't flown me up to see her for a few days, I would have had to live out of it as well.
It is amazing to move into an apartment in 5 minutes, and to just be able to leave without worrying about any stuff.
