"Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do."

Benjamin Spock (1903 - 1998)

Is this based on intuition? Or is it more that we tend to doubt our own judgement? How much does self doubt limit what we can truly do in life.

And I've always respected Vulcan philosophy myself.

:-) I couldn't resist the joke - but yes I know who Dr. Spock (the baby doc) is. Did throw me a bit not having the date he died - I didn't think he was 103 years old (he died in 1998).

Almost every student in the classroom interpreted this to be about confidence and self-esteem and not letting other people make you feel bad about yourself.

I can see that but I had an entirely different take on the quote.

To me, this really rings deeply about trusting our instinctual responses more than we currently do. Women who are involved in domestic violence situations often know at some level that it is unsafe, unhealthy for children, and NOT a good way to be living but they convince themselves that they deserved it, that they can't do any better than that, or that this is just the way it is supposed to be INSTEAD of trusting their gut and getting the h eck out of there.

There are many more examples in different areas and I know that the last example was over-simplified and is, in actuality, much more complex.

If you have a bad feeling about something then give it some extra thought and don't just discount it out of hand.

Thanks, Puggimer, you were right about that date! I guess the Quotes people don't have their bio info updated! Wiki had it right, tho.

I, like Michelle, thought of the things we instinctively/intuitively know.

I've been know to second guess myself... & I've made a deliberate effort to put a halt to that.
