Are there instances where losers really win? Giving up the fight may save countless lives.
The biggest problem, though, is that nobody likes to lose even it if would turn better in some odd way in the long run.
I think that we need to "assess the mess" and determine if it's worth taking a stand for, or if it makes more sense to simply walk away from it.
Look at Japan from WWII. They lost the war, but won the peace. I doubt they would be nearly as successful had they won.
But that has more to do with the idea of rebuilding after the war, instead of punishing the losers.
