"If a man insisted always on being serious, and never allowed himself a bit of fun and relaxation, he would go mad or become unstable without knowing it."

I'm not really sure that a life completely devoid of any humor or fun would even be worth living.

I know that people who work in extremely stressful jobs (police, firemen, ambulance drivers, ER staff, morticians, air traffic conrollers, etc.) frequently have what many people might consider a warped sense of humor but that is exactly HOW they cope with the stress. If that was missing then I think that there might not be enough medication available to deal with the devasting levels of depression that would be inevitable.

Laughter sometimes is the very best medicine.
